Irish program in need of change.

Irish continue downward spiral with lackluster performance against Pitt. Is this the final straw for Weis?

Comments

  1. Irish need to join a conference first of all. Join Big East. BCS has caused too much corruption with officiating controlling too many outcomes. Follow the money. Times have changed, we need protection a conference offers.

  2. Looks like John Gruden is out of the running, at least according to ESPN. AP reported Gruden signed and extension with ESPN. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hq0DnwgcLmgRjureAtPumzsvnGygD9C0NBFO1

Personally I'd like to see Brian Kelly for a number of reasons, but mostly because he seems to 'get' the college game. I think Weis assumed College and NFL were pretty much the same game, when in reality they are very different.

  3. Follow the money??? Not being in a conference makes us much more money than joining a conference even if we never go to a BCS game again.

I do agree that ND has been screwed a bunch on calls this year, but thats nothing new and it certainly predates the BCS. How bout our team just play better so we don't have to worry about refs screwing us. (see Stanford's win over USC)

If Brian Kelly gets the head coaching job here you can say goodbye to any chance at a good team for at least 3-4 years. He's got a good system, but it will take time to implement. Given how impatient ND fans are, I doubt he'd have the time needed to become successful here.

He doesn't have a big name and thus recruits are likely to back away from ND if he is hired. He's done well at Cincinnati, but coaching and recruiting at ND is a whole different game. ND can't just pick out OSU's leftovers from the GCL, we have to recruit nationally. Kelly rarely has to leave Cincinnati let alone Ohio.

I believe a coaching change is going to happen, but look to Stoops as our top prospect. Little chance Meyer leaves Florida any time soon. Kelly and Strong are long shots and if they are the only two available Weis might actually be around another year.

  4. Another good show with some interesting commentary. I appreciate the manner in which you criticize CW without "piling on" or demonizing him personally. I believe that Charlie loves ND and will leave it a better place than when he got there. He just did not quite have the skills to be a successful head football coach. At the same time I do not think we need to feel sorry for him. ND has given him a fair shake and he will walk away with a multimillion dollar buyout.. Speaking of coaching candidates ND should take a serious look at UConn's Randy Edsall. He has take UConn from 1-AA obscurity to a program that has outperformed ND on many levels over the past several years. Do not be surprised if they punch us in the mouth on Saturday.

  5. I like ND--however, I think Charlie Weis is unbelievably disgusting. When he released "The New Gold Standard" before he won a bowl game, I thought he was arrogant. When he refused to be interviewed by Keith Jackson, I thought he was an ass. After seeing him run the ND program into the ground, I think he's an idiot.

Who cares if Charlie loves ND? He is an arrogant, jackass. He's not a good coach, but he's an even worse person. If he really loved ND he would have humbled himself, worked hard, and got the team back in shape. Charlie leaves ND in the EXACT SAME position it was before he got there--which is no standard of excellence.

  6. If Charlie goes I am afraid that Jimmy, Tate, and Floyd are out to. The other young skilled guys might switch schools. Charlie has the offense where he needs it (Top 10) but its hard to win games with a 90th ranked Defense. Charlie will be fine next year if we get some DB's. Its hard to argue that he isnt a good offensive coach, but the D has got to get better. That is what wins you games. He needs one more year and thats it. Jimmy will take them far.

  7. What desirable/good coach is dumb enough to come to ND? Kelly will leverage the ND offer to get a bigger contract out of Cincy or go somewhere else. ND is not going to like the financial situation of getting rid of Weis and hiring a new coach, it spoils their building fund plans. ND has also shown they don't know what to look for in selecting a coach. Finally if ND doesn't join the Big East or someother conference, a change in coaching won't make a difference. Bad calls just keep wearing ND down until there is no fight left. It makes me sick to see there are no brains anywhere in the ND family to see the reality of the full picture.

  8. I don't think Weis ASSumed college and NFL were the same. As much as you all may think, Weis isn't stupid. He knew what he was getting himself into. And if he stays or goes, the program is in better shape than when he got here. But if he is fired, say goodbye to Jimmy and Golden and hello to another 3-4 years of rebuilding and hoping the next guy can get it done.(won't be Gruden or Meyer and Kelly isn't the right guy for the job)

  9. terrible refs in that pitt game. Jimmy didnt fumble. 1 flag on pitt all night? i saw 3 or 4 that werent called and thats just on tv. give me a break. been getting screwed all year with bad calls. look at when floyd got hurt. no TD? what a joke. all year nd has been geting bent over by BIG 10 and BIG EAST refs. sick of it

  10. Micah Craine...
Are you kidding me? Are you an ND person? You're saying that Weis is this terrible person and has run the program into the ground? You're the type of jackass that shouldn't be allowed to post comments. Are you saying that ND was in good shape when Charlie got there? YOU'RE A MORON. He may be a little arrogant but you need to be a little bit arrogant as the head coach at ND. Take a look around the country. How many college coaches aren't a little arrogant? Meyer? Saban? Carroll? THINK BEFORE YOU POST. You just make yourself sound dumb.

  11. anyone that wants ND to join a conference should go cheer for a conference team. we do just fine financially without joining a conference. ND football is independent and always should be. there is nothing to gain by joining a conference.

  12. I agree with most of the comments made. But let's look we will have many if not all of our weapons leave if we do get rid of charlie. (I honestly think we r a year away. We as fans require results too quickly. If we do get rid of him how about harbaugh he would be the best fit from a recruiting standpoint. He needs intelligent athletes at Stanford and he is turning it around there.

  13. Harbaugh hates ND. he was a michigan qb. forget about him.

  14. Is it so crazy for Harbaugh to come to ND? At least for the money? Corwin Brown is from Michigan.

  15. please please please send Corwin back to michigan

  16. Bobby, Nick Saban can be arrogant--because he wins. However, he's not even in the same stratosphere as Charlie Weis. Charlie wrote in his book, "I always knew I was smart. I knew that I'd always be the smartest coach on the field." Its so delightful to see him fail.

Nice rhetorical skills Bobby, but ND is much more of a joke now. Take it from me--there's not one team in the country that doesn't think they can beat the Irish, and getting blown out of your bowl games doesn't help your image either.

Hope ND makes it to a bowl--kid

  17. I've heard from a third party (my dad's friends granddaughter is dating a player), so this is soft of reliable, that weis was told he's not returning after the Navy game. which, if true, means his statement at the press conference on Tuesday was a lie.

  18. My brother is dating a cheerleader who knows another cheerleader whose friend is dating a Michigan player who knows a Notre Dame player who said that Charlie is being given a 25 year contract extension. If true this means that Matt's dad is a liar.

  19. no, this would make the granddaughter a liar Steve, try to keep up. i'm just reporting what i heard. would it be too difficult to believe he was told he's not returning as head coach after the second loss to Navy in three years. that's when i made up my mind.
is the source credible? i don't know. maybe maybe not.

  20. Matt: My question to you is what is the point of your post? You have publicly (but anonymously) accused CW of lying based upon some BS fourth hand gossip. He has no way of defending himself from this type of ridiculous accusation. CW may have his flaws but I don't think he is a liar. What type of person feels compelled to make these kind of statements? Didn't your mother ever tell you that if you didn't have something nice to say don't say anything at all?
