Will the Irish continue its dominance against Pitt?

Will there be a letdown from the big game last week vs. Va Tech? Or is the Irish offense just too much for Pitt to handle?

  1. Great commentary as always, I do respectfukky disagree on a one loss Notre Dame team being out, we have beaten three ranked teams. We have the eye test nationally. It is very hard to run the table for anyone so we will see how it plays out. If michigan and Stanford are able to win their conferences I feel we have an excellent chance to get in with a close loss to say a Syracuse. A lot has to play out, but we could get in with a loss in the right circumstance.

    1. The committee puts a lot of emphasis on conference championship wins, which we'll be sitting home watching. That's why it's tough for a one loss Irish to get in, but under the right circumstances, we could. Awfully tough though.

    2. I disagree, Alabama last year and Ohio state in 2016 didn't even win their division let alone a league championship game. Lotta football left, hopefully ewe can be #2 going into SC and if we do lose it will be close

    3. I disagree Mike, Alabama last year and Ohio state in 2016 didn't play in a championship game let alone win one. A lot of football left and losses will happen, I m confident ND will get in unbeaten and likely with s loss if its close. Last year Ohio state was in the discussion with 2 losses

  2. I like your humility about the opposition going forward. Too many other podcasts assume 12-0 or 11-1 record, you guys realize the Irish will have to earn every win going forward. Coach Holtz showed humility and respect for every opponent.

With all the ND football podcasts coming out, I want you guys to know you are and always will be relevant. You guys one are one of my 2 or 3 favorite.

    1. Very kind of you. I do agree we ND fans seem to be a little over confident and forget we're dealing with 18-22 year old kids. Lots of distractions, lots of ups and downs, and lots of adversity in a single game! Irish would be lucky to go 12-0. Not an easy thing to do. Having said that, they are capable so will be interesting.

    2. Now it seems to be chirping on about leaving out a 12-0 ND team (if they win out) for a 1 lose conference champion like LSU (if they beat Alabama), Texas or say Michigan (if they both win out).. If 2 SEC teams enter and leave out say Clemson and ND (as Pat Forde mention); there is nothing to play for..

I can not see a 11-1 ND team get in there or unless it is a ton of 2 lose teams..

  3. Good podcast, but I have to chide y'all for spreading a bit of misinformation for two weeks in a row: Dexter Williams is a *very bad* pass-catcher and route runner, not a good one. It's to the point where DeShone Kizer was play-making fun of him on Twitter earlier this year for apparently having learned how to run a second pass route. That and his horrendous pass blocking is why he didn't play much in his first three years notwithstanding his tremendous running abilities.

    1. Couldn't disagree more with this. He's improved dramatically in both areas this year. Watch the Pitt replay and you'll see him pick up a blitzing linebacker and plaster the guy. Look at the catch out of the backfield he makes on the screen pass. Also check out Avery Davis wiff on a block in the red zone. Williams should've been in there.

    2. Totally Agree on Williams.. That was a GREAT block. I was surprised Jones was not in there to block. Avery should not be in the back field in that single set unless it is double set for him to release cleanly from the backfield.

  4. Mike Coffey, with ND being undefeated at 7 - 0, do you feel silly knowing that if it were up to you, you would have fired Kelly years ago as the ND coach?

    1. Its time to move on Mike has been positive with great insight this year if you actually listen to his insight, back off him

    2. No sillier than you should feel believing there's only one coach in the country who could have done this. If a coach with the obvious flaws of Brian Kelly can pull off something like this, all the more reason not to fear replacements.

    3. Phil, let it go. Mike has been positive this yea, no reason to dredge up oldstuff jusdt to complainr

    4. I never said Kelly is the only coach in the country that could have done this but at the rate you like to hire and fire coaches the odds would have been very slim a coach would have been given the time to do it if it were up to you. The fact is you have called for Kelly to be fired at the end of every season he has been coaching at ND with the exception of the 2012 and 2017 season. You point out Kelly has "obvious flaws," you played on the ND marching band, how is it that you know more about coaching football than Kelly who has been coaching football for over 30 years?

  5. What one reads on the NDNation Site is nothing short of a disgrace. Growing up as a Notre Dame fan you learn to expect the hating on Notre Dame football that you run into amongst various opposing fans and commentators, but it’s simply amazing to find some of the most vociferous hating out there on the NDNation Site. The Team is 7-0 with a good shot at 12-0, but reading the comments over there, you’d think the Team was 2-5.

I used to calmly engage some of the negative voices over there on the merits, but I was banned for doing so. Like many others, I now wear that banning as a badge of honor. The NDNation Site is the very definition of Groupthink.

    1. If you truly had "calmly engaged", you'd still be there. Interestingly, the handle "CTND" still shows as active, so either you're impersonating someone else or making the whole thing up

    2. Oh is that right? So would you care to call this Notre Dame Alum and former Marine a liar too? I gotta believe you are familiar with this Article he penned for Bleacher Report.

      https://bleacherreport.com/articles/94282-how-i-got-myself-banned-by-ndnation

I will quote: "These boards are not about free and open discourse. If you disagree with the "Board," you will get banned."

I honestly don't remember what handle I used at NDNation - (CTND - is not very original), but if that was my handle and my privileges did get reinstated at some point (this week perhaps?), I'm sure you can verify that I have not posted in over 5 years and that I was, indeed, banned. But I'll try logging on to see what happens.... :)

    3. PS - nope, does not appear to be mine - guess there is another CTND:

"The password provided does not match what we have in the system for this handle."

    1. Well a good place to voice that opinion would be on NDNation, because they have not moved on ... they're still full of vitriol over there. Funny because I remember the long line of mea culpas they did in 2012, but not this time. They belittle every accomplish this year. When the Michigan game comes up - they complain how terrible the team did in second half. It's nothing but bitch, bitch, bitch. So by all means .... go over there and tell them to move on. And let us know where you do so - so that we can view the reaction!!! They will likely tar and feather you on the way to banning you .... LOL

  7. My advice is to stay away from them if that's how you feel, it comes with the territory, there will always be negative people to be found. I remember Lou being chastised that he didn't use the tight end and brought in bone ball to ND. A lot of people have different expectations for others than they do themselves.
