CFP or New Years 6 better for Irish?

11-1 is likely now for Notre Dame. Do we really want to play Georgia in the first round of CFP or win a New Years 6 to get the monkey off our back?

  1. Great discussion. At first I agreed with Mike Coffey about Bowl vs Playoff but now I think that stems from a broad lack of confidence in Brian Kelly's ability to have a team ready to compete on the big stage...I dread a blowout playoff loss but if we play GA, there is no downside, only upside, esp. in a rebuilding year. Go Irish!

  2. I m in the camp to play in the playoff. Utah is favored and Georgia will be favored over Bama. I see no reason the playoff won't include Georgia, the big ten champ, Cincy and ND barring upsets. Right now our SOR is 3rd
Everyone talks about our schedule SOS of 33 but it's better than most in the top ten. We get had a great year and it's only gonna get better
Michigan state is gonna be exposed Saturday, like they were vs purdue

  3. Talk about being blown out. Ohio state seems to be at the top of the list. Seems to be a yearly item with them Iowa a few years back then Purdue, the past two playoff they were both blowout games to Clemson 31-0 and the shellacking last year to alabama by 32
I think we should lobby for the playoff at 11-1, this year looks better than prior years

  4. Irish looking better every week today's thumping of Georgia Tech not surprising

  5. As predicted barring upsets looks like tomorrow s ranking in coaches and AP could be Georgia,Bama,tOSU Cincy and ND
Playoff looking likely, gotta admit for a rebuilding year this is really special
These seniors today are the winningest class ever in ND football history, and may very well be looking at a third playoff appearance in their four years

    1. Michigan might pick a bone with you.

    2. As expected both the coaches and AP polls have ND at 5th
Michigan should drop out of the top ten after Saturday similiar to Michigan St
Actually I hope Michigan upsets Ohio state then it will possible be Georgia Cincy Michigan and ND

  6. Ed was clearly right and Coffey wrong on the analysis of getting in. Clearly. Coffey suffers from that old canard of thinking that a recruit, seeing ND get blown-out, will feel the same thing that he - the ND fan - feels. It shows a lack of imagination and the ability to get outside your own end and see something from the perspective of another. If we get blown out - it means two things. A - our coaches coached the Team above the talent level. B - we're missing key pieces at key positions. And the pitch to the top level talent - "You're that missing piece" The difference between competing at the Top Level and winning at the Top Level.

    1. I think the way this team is playing right now, they deserve to be in the Playoffs. Cincy would lose to us now. Kyren is one of the best 3 running backs in the country. Defense is playing their best football of year along with O-Line. Let's do this.

    2. And when it happens four times in a row with multiple classes, maybe the "missing piece" ain't the player

    3. The missing piece can be a lot of things, culture, program ceiling, this process at Notre Dame wasn't a quick fix. Remember boots left in 96' and Wadsworth really had very little vision, then you combine all the missteps by AD White and we were in a 13-15 year problem. Had Kelly followed Holtz the comeback would of been both easier and more consistent,. Notre Dame had lost its place in college football prior to kelly

    4. I meant Holtz left in 96' after the three failed coaches After him it wasn't as quick of fix as Holtz had following Faust and having multiple championships in the 70's,. Holtz was hired 8 years after the last prior title,. When Kelly was hired in 2010 it had been 22 years and multiple average seasons

  7. A lot of scenarios but if Wisconsin can win the big ten we will be in, or if Georgia wins the SEC our odds are pretty good,
I think one of you mentioned a 5 percent chance couple weeks ago, what is your percentage now?

    1. I think we're 50-50 to get in now. OSU will likely win out but I don't see Bama beating Georgia.

    2. I see it a lot higher than 50/50. Bama beating Georgia is a problem for us but that game isn't 50/50 and while Stanford did beat oregon I really think we should have our way with them saturday

  8. I respectfully disagree with Coffey why not play the best? Playing Pitt or WF in the peach Bowl would do little for our program

  9. Let's go win this thing, have the best running back in the country, talent everywhere aNd a defense that's peaking,

  10. Realistically it looks like seven teams are still in the running off the playoff barring strange upsets
Georgia, tOSU, Michigan,Cincy,ND, Bama and Okie State.
My guess is Georgia is the only team already locked in so essentially we have 3 sports for 5 teams (OSU/mich losing team will be out).
Barring upsets my guess is Georgia, tOSU Cincy and ND will make up the playoff field
However Bama does control it's destiny, in that scenario I see tOSU, Bama Georgia and Cincy

  11. It's possible Oklahoma could beat Okla State twice and make an argument to be in.

  12. My guess is their late season loss to Baylor will keep Oklahoma out.... any of the seven teams mentioned other than Georgia can suffer a loss and expect to get in (my opinion)

    1. I meant any of the seven mentioned if they suffer a loss won't get in, except georgia

  13. If you think this rebuilding year was good, what do you think the next two years are gonna be like? Gonna be a fun few years

  14. Weather forecast looks great dry and mid 60s. The dry track should will be an advantage for our athletes Saturday for the Cardinal
