part of the problem is Notre Dame is a place opponents want to visit and attend compared to say Ohio State or Penn State......this creating the situation we had with Nebraska and Georgia over the years and ND fans selling their tickets. not complicated, just a supply/demand issue
Greatly Enjoyed your Post-USC game Pod, Guys. (+ also "got" Coffey's "Jane U ignorant S#%!" barb that he threw in, which got slightly lost in the Dome discussion sauce. I literally spit out my afternoon coffee instantly bursting out in a laugh - his timing was great!) So here we are with the final playoff roster & I believe your prior projection of 5 for ND SHOULD have come to fruition! Yet as I understand, I'm instead sitting here as a huge life-long ND fan (& shhh.... a Penn State Grad who is a massive PSU Football hater) while Penn State's 'Knitting Kittens' FB team has been awarded a cakewalk Primadonna coveted position of No. 5 - Simply un-real! Penn State beat absolutely nobody ranked, cept for Illinois, who I believe was ranked ~24th at the time. They only played 3 ranked teams, got beat by 2 of them & still have yet to beat a single top 20 team, yet are awarded 5th place with 2 losses! ...while ND has 1 loss & beat 3 top 20 teams & a top 24 team. If Franklin beats SMU, PSU then gets to play the 4th ranked team all of which tells me this entire play-off scheme is a complete sham and is more of a Beauty Contest than the old no-playoff system was. Appears the new 12 team rankings are much more congruent with a team's Coach's $$ Salary than is based upon who the teams played. I was thrilled to hear coach Saban (last Sat. on ESPN game day) proclaim how very important he believes Strength of Schedule & who a team plays is & should be recognized. But as usual, Penn State's SOS is abysmal! They scheduled a weak WVU team, caught a rather vacated USC team & avoided Indiana, Michigan & Michigan State. Many years ago they stopped playing cross-state Pitt when they couldn't beat them anymore; same reason Paterno stopped playing Syracuse. There's absolutely zero logical argument as to why PSU should be ranked higher than ND. Are they considered more worthy because they got beat in a Conf' Championship game? If so, why should the new Committee be glorifying & rewarding Losses. What a disgrace. And I'm sure Franklin will get home field, where there'll be 98K sauced-up fans. Can't wait to root-on SMU's Pony Xpress. - Look forward to your upcoming analyses. Thanks Much
I think the idea is the committee doesn't wanna have a team play their way into a conference championship game to play themselves out. I see your points, but the committee is in a challenging situation. Penn State has been ahead of us all year, and they did lose to Oregon, here is another point to consider......with the demise of Florida State and SC football this year, how should their dumpster fires somehow make ND a worse (or better) team? I think the strength of schedule thing is something to consider but really has nothing to do with how good or bad a team actually is, its more about the opponent.
Why are we the ones over the years that have problems with fans selling their tickets? Or is this an issue everywhere?

Deletenot complicated, just a supply/demand issue
Barring turnovers this team wont be able to handle the Irish physicality
ReplyDeleteWon’t be a blowout, but they are gonna struggle to run the ball
I agree, other than Oregon no one really scares me in this field if we bring our A game.

I don’t see a blowout, but I think the Irish can win 34-21
ReplyDeletebiggest game in ND stadium since unbeaten #1 Clemson?
