Irish manhandle Duke. Freshmen make statement on Senior Day.

How much does this win ease the pain of being 2-9? Is there now more hope vs. Stanford? Bball loses a heartbreaker.

  1. I did not like the Zbikowski stint at QB at all. He has played enough and messed up on enough plays through blown coverage and poor tackling that it was time to give someone else a chance. For instance, what if ND did not get another offensive series and Darrin Bragg had not gotten in. Let's put in the guy who labored on the scout team all year instead of the guy with the big mouth.

I also wanted to comment on Charlie's press conference. You guys didn't discuss it, but Charlie's plan is to go to talk to people at the patriot's organization about what he did wrong and needs to change. I am glad to see that he is willing to examine himself first, and I understand that they know his system the best, but why go to the NFL when adhering to an NFL regiment was one of the biggest problems this year. He made the excuse that college coaches are too busy at this time and may not give an honest opinion, but what about the tremendous college resources that are out of the game. There happens to be two retired ND coaches that are a couple of the greatest college coaches ever. Why not seek out Ara and Lou or how about Tom Pagna or coach Chimel that are retired from coaching and could give him a lot better perspective on transfroming 18 years old into solid players. Charlie said he is just now realizing the difference between an 18 year old and a 23 year old (I don't know why it took him so long other than he was ignoring the younger players the last two years). But what does Belichick know about that?

  2. The only thing that this win proved is that we're not the 119th offense in College Football, we're the 118th. It was a good win in the sense that it was nice to see them win and send the seniors on a positive note but it does very little in terms of moving the program in the right direction. Beating Duke can not be a big accomplishment on ANY Irish team (even this one). I don't think it improves our chances against Stanford. They are a much better team than Duke (and the service academies for that matter) and they beat SC so they're not lacking confidence either.

I really enjoyed seeing the freshmen making plays and the O line doing a little bit better against the blitz, hopefully that will carry on into next year, but doing it against Duke doesn't prove anything. I don't know if we'll be able to beat Stanford but I hope we do so can finish this season on a positive note and Charlie can figure out this mess with the help of his friends in New England or who ever is willing to help
