Why the Irish will beat USC

Rivalry games are always tough to predict. But this year is different. Notre Dame is the superior team.

  1. Agree with everything, again how were they gonna score on our defense? Heard they may have 2 defensive backs out with injuries, may wanna exploit them with the pass.

  2. Was great to discover your post today - I believe you nailed the entire situation which ND is currently moving thru. Coff' really seems to have excelled at analyzing this year's season, competition, & gen. predictions. Agree that what Kelly navigated this year is quite laudable, with all the night games, excessive travel, distractions, etc. Wonder what you thought of the "Pin Stripe" uni's and non-Golden helmets (a real 1st I think) at the garlic gulch known as Yengee Stdm. Made me nauseous, but the helmets grew on me. Was in center city Philly Monday on business and saw USA Today cover which said "ND could be first to punch it's own ticket to Playoffs". That really struck me, like Wow. Would've never dream this possible after Wimbush's early season post MU struggles. Watched re-broadcast of the 2012 ND v. USC game today on Comcast - One hellava game. Thus I especially appreciated your comments on how that team differs to current team, and how Manti was such a massive force on that D. The 4th Q ND goal line stance was EPIC! Worst part was sickening announcers "Burnt Cheeseburger" (Musberger) & candy butt ND hater "Herbie Street": Whole game all they did was downplay ND, idolize the Kiffins, and put the then wounded/sidelined USC QB Barkley on a pedestal while describing him as the next coming of Montana or Brady (How's that workin out...). I noted BK looked like he was ~29 YOA at that 2012 game vs. how he looks today. Not a stress-free job being ND HC me thinks, and he's definitely put a lot into the job over the years. Always anticipating your next cast -Thanks much

    1. You're right on. BK really should get Coach of the Year if they beat USC. Not a lot of coaches could've done what he's done this year. It wasn't like we got lucky either. Every game was decisive.

  3. I like the Irish 41-14, we should be able to run the ball and stop their running game, without turnovers
I just do not see the Irish losing
Our offense is gonna move the ball against SC

  5. Best possible situation is for bama to win and knock out Georgia. I like our possibilities with Clemson then its just a 60 minute situation, with this group u never know!! Thanks guys on the podcast and go Irish

  6. How bad do you think the grass/turf was at USC Saturday night?

The Irish looked totally out-coached in the first half. Your thoughts.

Don't forget, USC has nine 6.1 rated 5 star players on their squad. No way this was going to be a ND 35 point blowout...not with that NFL talent.

    1. You can certainly tell the field was not in great shape. On Dexter's TD run, the FS slipped with no-one around him. Yes, USC's game plan was better than ours in the first half, but the Irish coaching staff should get a lot of credit for their 2nd half adjustments. They've been doing this all year by the way. In a rivalry game, it's really hard to blow someone out. USC has talent, and they finally played with a purpose for once in the last 5 games. Great win for ND. Great tune-up game for Clemson. Check out Clemson's team speed. They have 3 running backs on their roster who average more yards per carry than Dexter.

    2. Agree totally mike, gonna be a tough matchup but I m confident in this defense, its really hard to score more than 25 on us and equally hard to stop out point production. Were very consistent

    3. I will, I will check out Clemson's running backs and their entire play on youtube. Thx.

  8. Interesting looking at the coaches poll on the TOP 25 final ballot per bowl season.

#4, 5, & 6 is really interchangeable with Irish in that mix as well. Conference coaches definitely have loyalty..

Navy's Coach has Irish #4 behind 2 loss Georgia.

Mike Gundy (OLK ST) had Irish #6
Florida's coach has Irish at #5
Middle Teen State has Irish at #5 behind Georgia & Central Fl

Pitts & WV coach have Irish #4 behind Oklahoma
Missouri, Auburn's coach have Irish behind Georgia at #4

Bowling Green coach might need to double check his work.. Michigan at 4????

  9. We need a podcast as it is time to talk playoffs, USC win, and the season, or, just the USC win. We were totally outcoached in the first half.

Concerning ND basketball, you gotta love the Irish. Over the last few years, they lose to Nobody College yet beat Kentucky, North Carolina, or some other ranked team. It's a little humorous and that's ok.

  10. Just watched condensed games between Clemson v Pitt and Clemson v S. Carolina. You were right Brammer, ie, Clemson RBs are powerfully strong and Fast. You have to stop them before they start to be effective. Clemson's receivers are top shelf yet their QB is not prolific yet good enough when he has time to throw. My concern: Scary if Clemson gashes us in the run game like USC did in the first half.

Offensively: I would like to the see Irish use Young, Austin, and TEs in 3, 4, and 5 receiver sets. It will be a challenge to run against them yet possible with the right OL schemes as ND has proved all season.

Clemson's DL and LBs are hard hitting and bring a recklessness to the game like Miami did last year against the Irish. Notre Dame has to match the intensity on offensive and defense to Clemson's to win.

    IRISH ONWARD TO VICTORY!

    1. Clemson's running game will most likely point to win or loss. If they have 220+ yards rushing, we're in deep trouble. Less than that and we have a chance.

  12. YOU WILL NOT BE PLAYING BAMA, GO DAWGS 45-14

  13. Too many football awards. I enjoyed the Bob Hope All-Americans. Your thoughts?

    1. There use to be 1 AP All-American team, and that's all anybody paid attention to. But I personally don't have a problem with all the awards now. There are so many talented kids that play it's a tough call.

  14. Do you feel our fan base really understand and appreciate our coaches?
I really feel we maximize our talent level but just don't have some of the kids these other programs have from a depth standpoint, love our kids effort but are we handicapped to a degree?

    1. Other schools like Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, etc... have a huge advantage in that they can take almost any student/athlete they want. Not the case at ND. Not even close.

  15. So far, there haven't been any worthwhile/good podcasts on this playoff game. I hope you guys bring another podcast.
