Irish punch out 2019 in style

Iowa State lost to 4 ranked teams by a total of 11 points, including a 1 point loss to Playoff team Oklahoma. The Irish manhandled the Cyclones and punctuated a heck of a 2019 season.

  1. For those who listen all the way to the 28-minute mark, no, USC didn't fire their head coach, and no, their head coach is not named Todd Helton. Remember, if you're looking for cogent analysis, you've come to the wrong place. At least I got the Ian Book news right.

  2. Its my understanding Helton fired his defensive coordinator and special teams coaches. When we played SC I thought they (SC) competed and looked well coached given their injuries and youth. Since we have taken control of that series (6 wins in last 8 years) my focus is on being a consistent top ten team ourselves and not focus on their challenges. Helton appears to be a quality person/coach but really struggles away from home in big games, and may be mired in the same negative issues we also dealt with from the outside for years. Similiar to what took out Texas coach Charlie Strong

  3. Irish physicality is another level last few years and getting better each year, not sure the specific changes that were made but we are a different program strength wise.
Our depth may also be a contributing factor to the strength, we don't get banged up as much and that shows up in games 6-12 second half of the season

  4. The 33 wins the last three years is impressive but don't forget the 2015 team was really good. They "only" won 10 games but if it weren't for some injury issues and vangorder we may of ran the table

  5. i was surprised Iowa state couldnt score a TD, gotta hand it to defensive coaches and players. Great preparation

  6. Do you listen to your own podcast, the last few have parts where the voices are off sync, everyone talking at the same time and then silence, makes it really hard to listen/understand

  7. In terms for the 2020 schedule, obviously Wisconsin and Clemson jump out, but how will teams like Stanford,SC, Louisville, and maybe to a lesser extent Navy, Wake Forest and Pitt be? I would really be surprised if GT,Western Mich, Arkansas or Duke challenge us

  8. I agree on the 2015 team, two regular season losses (by 2 @Clemson and by 2 @Stanford.

  9. Where to you see ND final ranking in the AP poll? Somewhere between 9-11?

    1. After watching Penn State and Baylor, I really feel we should be ranked ahead of them, but typical media bias will put us at 11.

  10. Any interest in a show on the changes in the coaching staff? We have a chance to be special next year, but who will be the offensive coordinator? Def backs coach? Will coach Kelly continue to upgrade his staff?

    1. Can't say I'm surprised. With Book coming back, not a good sign for him playing next year. The following year he'd be competing with potentially a better QB than Book in both Drew Pyne and Tyler Buchner.

  12. My guess is with all the talent ND has maybe Phil saw the writing on the wall and knew he would be a backup, let's face it Tyler Buchner is the real deal not to mention Drew. I wish him well, just don't see his logic not playing @ND next year and getting his degree first then have 2 years left to transfer out without having to sit a year.

  13. Eric Hanson says he is gonna vote ND #11.
Maybe 11 is correct, I respectfully disagree.

    1. 11 is what I was thinking. Would probably be tough to put us ahead of Minnesota, even though I think we'd beat them handily.

    2. I'm surprised we finished #12, behind 10-4 Wisconsin who lost to Illinois.

    3. They completely dismissed Wisconsin's bad loss to Illinois. Unbelievable. 4 losses over us with 1 bad loss all season and a manhandling of Iowa State?
